Knee & Ankle Treatments

Injuries affecting the lower limb are very common in all walks of life and can affect anyone at any age. As it is the case with most of our body parts, there are pain-sensitive structures in the hip, knee and ankle. The structures can be sources of pain and discomfort. The most important element is to find out what is causing the pain in your hip, knee or ankle.

Sprain on Ankle or Injury:

Symptoms

Hip pain can scale from mild aches to acute pain which impacts your day to day life. Depending on the primary cause of your hip pain, you may feel tenderness or stiffness in the thigh, groin, inside the hip joint, outside the hip joint, buttocks, side of the hip, lower back, sciatica pain or even the knee sometimes, you may find yourself limping or adjusting your walking style due to constant hip pain.

Cause

There are many causes of hip pain, a chiropractor will do physical examination of the entire musculo-skeletal system to understand the cause, a chiropractor evaluate the lumbar spine, pelvic bones and joints, as well as the hip socket to understand the issue and what needs to be corrected, hip pain can also be result of knee, ankle and foot issues such as flat feet or having an irregular leg length one can be shorter than another if untreated on time may cause chronic issues like arthritis, others can be herniated disc, slip disc. When you have an imbalance or instability in your pelvis or joints, it can cause muscles pain in that region and create hip pain. Pelvic imbalance is often the cause of injuries in the hip region especially with athletes and active people.

Treatment

This will depend on the results of the examination by a chiropractor. At A-Plus Wellness Centre we treat our patient through, chiropractic manipulation, decompression, postural correction, exercise programs and behavioral changes.

Achilles Tendonitis:

Symptoms

Achilles tendonitis can be differentiated by many symptoms such as thick achilles, stiffness along the achilles tendon, pain and discomfort when walking or even after exercising. Swelling and inflammation, lower back pain and sciatica due to poor posture, pain in the centre of the tendon and also experience restricted range of motion in the ankle and foot.

Cause

Achilles tendonitis may not usually be the cause from injury, in common it can be stress related or overuse and degeneration. Other factors can be due to increase in intensity of exercise and physical activity and/or having tight muscles putting stress on the achilles tendon. Bone spurs can also cause achilles attached to the heel bone.

Treatment

Chiropractic treatment with direct therapy may help to decrease the symptoms as well as increase the strength and performance in time. In some cases, customized foot orthotics can provide stability and support prevention of excess stress and pressure on the feet.

Plantar fasciitis:

Symptoms

Plantar fascia is the connective tissue which connects the heel to the metatarsal and heads towards the underside of the foot. Plantar fasctiitis is the irritation of this fascia due to overuse and/or repetitive strain at the bottom of the foot. Some common symptoms are pain in the heel, pain when getting out of the bed in the morning or sometimes worsens at a particular activity during the day.

Cause

It is caused when the ligament that connects the toes to your heel, the plantar fascia becomes inflamed, swollen, and weak. This causes pain at the bottom of the foot when walking or even standing. The pain is acute especially when you first stand up to walk after sitting for a long time. The pain can be stabbing preventing to walk at the normal pace, anyone can get it at any age, especially people who spend a lot of time on their feet.

Treatment

Through Chiropractic treatment and adjustment of the lower back, pelvis, hip, knee and ankle can reduce the pressure on the insertion of the plantar fascia and allow it to heal.
